Rule Three: Roll With The Punches | When life changes, so must your budget. Make adjustments and move along. Flexible budgets succeed because they’re guilt-free, realistic, and sustainable. Rule Four: Age Your Money | As you repeat the first three rules, you’ll increase the time between earning a dollar and the moment you need to spend it. • Budget Has Never Been Better!

This app is not only changing my perspective on budgeting, but my whole life! They say it’s a game changer once your money reaches 30 days old. Our money is 20 days old after three months and the difference is already unbelievable. The stress level is dropping daily! Thank you YNAB!!!!
  • Try the free trial at least

I had a two month free trial period. They usually offer only one month but they gave me an extra month for free. I have been using it for at least four months now and I love it. It is a total budgeting game changer. What makes it powerful is they offer live workshops, videos, podcasts and articles to help you learn how to use their budgeting philosophy and make a budget that works for you. I have been able to make smarter and more meaningful and informed decisions with my money because now I know exactly what the status of my goals are and where my money needs to go. It helps me plan ahead and anticipate expenses and issues before they occur. Can I afford that really pretty backpack I’ve been wanting? Check budget. Yes, I can and I don’t have to feel guilty about it or worry whether I can make rent. Can I afford those shoes? No, I can’t, I got that backpack. It’s like a really good weight loss program for your budget. It’s not a fad diet, it’s a lifestyle change. It’s not a restrictive system, it helps you plan for and achieve your financial and personal goals little by little whatever those goals are. I love the app. It’s what I use most often but start with the desktop version. It will be easier to set yourself up. Use the app for adding transactions and looking at your budget on the go, use the desktop for sitting down, planning and auditing. Watch the YouTube videos and do the workshops. Also, unlike other apps you don’t have to link any of your accounts unless you feel comfortable with that. I don’t because I’m paranoid about the security of doing that. Adding transactions and keeping your budget up to date is easy if you do it as soon as you make an expenditure and set up recurring transactions for things, like Netflix. Which you should be doing this anyway because there is always a lag at the bank and you don’t want to overspend.
  • Finally found something that works

After years of living paycheck to paycheck, never having savings, and always carrying credit card debt I found YNAB a little over two years ago. To say that is has changed my life is an understatement. My finances are in line like they have never been ever. I paid off my credit card debt, paid off my student loans, and for the past year have been living off of 60% of my income as I prepare to go to part time hours. Setting it up is a commitment. It took me a couple weeks and watching a lot of dedicated YouTube channels to really understand how to set it up. But once everything was set it was incredibly easy to use. My one complaint is that the instructional videos provided aren’t the best way to set it up. Thankfully there is a ton of YouTube content dedicated to customizing your YNAB to work best for you. Don’t even hesitate if you are struggling with your finances, this program would be worth 3x the annual fee for what it can do for you.

I have been using YNAB since the beginning of 2020 and I will never go back. I tried several budgeting apps (EveryDollar, Mint, several others whose names I don’t remember) and YNAB is FAR superior. Yes, it costs money but the savings I have incurred since the beginning of 2020 far outweigh the $80/year that YNAB charges. You need a budget! Let this app save your finances!
  • Used for years and had to leave

I used YNAB for years and they switched to a different platform for bank account syncing. It has not worked for me since and I don’t have time to chase down their issues. Good product but bad move. I had to switch back to Quicken. Good luck!
  • My favorite app EVER!

    By GMVD77
Seriously, I never would have expected a budget app to change my life. I’ve always felt like my money controlled me and have tried to budget. A lot. But I’d always end up feeling like such a failure with my money. I did the trial last year, but didn’t watch enough of the videos. Use the tutorials on the app and on YouTube, it will help you with the process soo much. I bought the app in January, spent a couple weeks “learning” and in February I went all in. I went from being about -$7k in debt in January to having +$5k in my bank account in May. It’s insane. I went from scrambling to pay bills for years-living paycheck to paycheck. This month (May) an expense I wasn’t expecting came up, and I was able to cover it ($400+) with no stress. It’s the best investment you can make-reduce your stress and be able to reach your financial goals.
  • Missing a great feature

When you are on the transaction list of a specific category, you are limited to view ONLY on that particular month. So like the YNAB 4, it would be great addition to this version of YNAB to be able to view the list of transactions within that category of the current and the previous months combined. 2020-05-28 synch issue. My transactions in my BOA account cleared two days ago (May 26th ) & today is May 28th, and still YNAB didn’t download my transactions. WHAT I DID TO FIX: I deleted the connection and re-connected to the bank and it’s STILL the same. I was experiencing this issue in the last couple of months & I have seen other people reporting this issue as well. Please fix this issue so I can give 5*****. Other than that, it’s a great app. Thanks
  • Finally a budget app done right

    By Andyafternu
I have tried other apps for budgeting, but I always ended up being surprised by big bills. That is why I love that they only use dollars that I actually have when budgeting. They also have a great community that has helped me during this particularly rough patch professionally. In short, the app is well worth its monthly cost.
